Everything is a Remix

Letter #0

A reminder that I am nothing without others, semi-viral success, and what to expect moving forward

Kirby Ferguson has an amazing 4 part video series titled "Everything is a Remix". His explanation and analysis of creativity makes you pause and wonder about the origin of unique thought and innovation.

Discovery consists of seeing what everyone has seen, and thinking what no one has thought
— Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Ultimately, Everyone Deserves Great Design is a remix of numerous ideas that came before combined with an optimistic vision of the future of design. My work would be nothing if I had not been inspired my the numerous scholars and innovators that came before me.

Semi-viral Success

I am overwhelmed by the attention and positive response this website received in the first few days of going online. Within the first 30 hours, the website went from 0 to over 35k unique visitors. I could not believe it. I had no strategy or plan to make the website go viral. People simply picked it up on their own and quickly spread it around the internet - particularly amongst the design community.

Of course, traffic has already died down tremendously as the internet moves on to the next thing but I continue to be overwhelmed by the positive response on twitter from organizations that I admire such as Grameen Foundation, IDEO.org, Catapult Design, Mass, Autodesk Foundation, GOOD, TinySpark, Inspirasial Foundation, and the hundreds of individuals that tweeted out the website with glowing remarks.

I love all of you!

What to expect moving forward

You can expect approximately one new letter each month for as long as I have new and interesting content to share. I will try my best to unravel and explain various parts of my research that I was forced to quickly gloss over in the main page.

I will do case studies and analyze interesting new products and trends that embody the ideas or principles of Everyone Deserves Great Design. You can also expect to see several guest authors that will add to our understanding based on their own rich expertise and experiences.

Make sure to leave a comment below letting me know what you would like to get out of these monthly letters. Thanks for reading and supporting my new mindset!

You can also feel free to tweet at me here or like the page on Facebook here
